What is the diference/Why is there a difference between the black and white church? Posted on 07-30-2011

It has been said that Sunday morning is the most segregated 2 hours in America. That is because when it comes to worshipping GOD, Christians, who claim they love GOD, conduct themselves as non-Christians.

Growing up, my parents did not take us to church. My step-father was an atheist and my mom, a Jehovah’s Witness. So, my pursuit of truth did not happen until a chance invitation from a childhood friend who invited me to his church. His mom made them go to church and his invitation was more about having someone there in whom he could talk to. Funny thing happened, I accepted Christ as my Savior and Lord. I was twelve years old. Twelve year olds definitely do not want to go to hell! Unfortunately, no one took me under their wings to mentor me in the word. So, it would be years later before I would be confronted with Truth, and the pursuit of it.

When I was in college, I went to a Catholic Church on campus with a friend. The place was packed with other students like ourselves. The only difference, we were black. There was standing room only when we got there so we stood at the back.  As the service was progressing, I started looking around the edifice at all the ornamentation.  In doing so, I noticed several people looking at us as though we were demons.  I looked back at my friend, who is a devout Catholic, to see if he noticed. Of course he was oblivious to what was happening.

Years later, In my search for a Church in which to worship, I joined a church which consisted of a congregation of African Americans (Blacks). It was very interesting to me to see how much variance in the service as compared to the Catholic Church experience, earlier.  In talking to members about different denominations and the relevance of them in regards to scripture, it fascinated me when the conversation became focused on the Black Church relative to the White Church. Not being a “Church Boy)”, this was something I did not think went on in churches where the congregation and or Pastor is  black. After thinking about both experiences, I thought about my own pursuit of God. But the thing that really bothered me was the fact that in both experiences, both congregations had the mindset that there was nothing wrong with their ideas regarding the worship of a Holy God.

So, my question, or should  say questions to you are as follows. Who is worshipping God? Second, how do you know?

Doesn't look like this issue matters to anyone.  People serve and worship when and where they choose.  If you're comfortable in your own skin a white church or black will work.  There is but one God and in Him there is no Jew or Gentile meaning no race.
